Treatment Overview
Composite Bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure that involves applying a tooth coloured resin material to the teeth to improve their appearance. This procedure is minimally invasive and can be used to correct chips, gaps and discoloration, and minor alignment issues.
Important Information
- The average survival rate of composite bonding is between 3-10 years though some restorations may fail sooner or last significantly depending on individual circumstances.
- Composite bonding can chip, wear, or stain over time. Maintenance or repairs may be required.
- The longevity of the bonding is influenced by:
- Oral Hygiene – daily brushing, flossing and regular dental check ups are essential.
- Diet – acidic, sugary or highly pigmented food and drinks can affect the composite.
- Lifestyle habits – such as nail biting, pen chewing, teeth grinding (bruxism) and smoking.
- It is important to avoid using your teeth as tools, biting on hard objects, or opening packaging with your teeth as these actions can cause damage to the bonding.
- Composite bonding is a cosmetic procedure and may require future polishing, repair or replacement to maintain appearance and function.
